Kundapur Chicken Pulimunchi

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 5-6 dried red chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies. Grind them along with grated coconut, ginger, and garlic to make a smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the ground masala paste and cook for a few minutes. Then, add turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, and tamarind paste.
  4. Add the chicken pieces, salt, and water. Cover and cook until the chicken is tender.
  5. Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
