Kung Pao Tofu

Kung Pao Tofu is a popular dish in Indian Chinese cuisine, known for its spicy and savory flavors. This vegetarian version of the classic Kung Pao dish is made with crispy tofu, peanuts, and a flavorful sauce.

Kung Pao Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3-4 dried red chilies
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • For the sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the ingredients for the sauce and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the dried red chilies, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for a minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the bell pepper and peanuts to the pan and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Pour the sauce into the pan and bring to a simmer. Add the cooked tofu back to the pan and toss to coat in the sauce.
  7. Stir in the green onions and cook for another minute.
  8. Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
