Kung Pao Tofu
Kung Pao Tofu is a popular dish in Indian Chinese cuisine, known for its spicy and savory flavors. This vegetarian version of the classic Kung Pao dish is made with crispy tofu, peanuts, and a flavorful sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
- 1/2 cup peanuts
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3-4 dried red chilies
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- For the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the ingredients for the sauce and set aside.
- Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the dried red chilies, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the bell pepper and peanuts to the pan and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
- Pour the sauce into the pan and bring to a simmer. Add the cooked tofu back to the pan and toss to coat in the sauce.
- Stir in the green onions and cook for another minute.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
