Kutsinta

Kutsinta is a traditional Filipino steamed rice cake that is commonly served as a snack or dessert. It is chewy, slightly sweet, and often enjoyed with freshly grated coconut.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups rice flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon lye water (or food-grade lye)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the rice flour and brown sugar.
  2. Add water and lye water to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into small molds, filling them about 3/4 full.
  4. Steam the kutsinta for 20 minutes or until set.
  5. Let it cool before removing from the molds.
