Ingredients
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 gallon water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the rye bread slices. Let it cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, remove the bread slices and stir in the sugar, raisins, and lemon juice. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and cover the pot with a clean kitchen towel. Let it sit at room temperature for 2 days, stirring once a day.
- After 2 days, strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean container. Discard the solids and transfer the liquid to airtight bottles. Let it ferment in the refrigerator for another day before serving.
