Kvass Quencher is a traditional Russian beverage that is perfect for hot summer days. This refreshing drink is made from fermented rye bread and has a slightly tangy and fizzy flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 8 cups water

Instructions

  1. Toast the rye bread slices until they are dark and crispy.
  2. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil and then remove from heat.
  3. Stir in the sugar until it dissolves, then add the toasted bread slices and yeast.
  4. Cover the pot with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
  5. Strain the liquid into a pitcher and discard the bread slices.
  6. Chill the kvass in the refrigerator before serving.
