Kvass Quencher
Kvass Quencher is a traditional Russian beverage that is perfect for hot summer days. This refreshing drink is made from fermented rye bread and has a slightly tangy and fizzy flavor.
Ingredients
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 8 cups water
Instructions
- Toast the rye bread slices until they are dark and crispy.
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil and then remove from heat.
- Stir in the sugar until it dissolves, then add the toasted bread slices and yeast.
- Cover the pot with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
- Strain the liquid into a pitcher and discard the bread slices.
- Chill the kvass in the refrigerator before serving.
