Ingredients

  • 500g beef, thinly sliced
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4-5 dried red chilies, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef slices with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, and cornstarch for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add the dried chilies and garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Add the marinated beef slices and stir-fry until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  4. In the same wok, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the onion and potatoes until slightly browned.
  5. Return the beef to the wok, then pour in the beef broth and oyster sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 40-45 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the potatoes are cooked through.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot with steamed rice.
