La Zi Ji, also known as Spicy Szechuan Chicken, is a popular dish in Pakistani Chinese cuisine. This flavorful and spicy chicken dish is a perfect combination of Szechuan peppercorns, chili peppers, and mouth-numbing spices.

La Zi Ji (spicy Szechuan Chicken)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
  • 4-5 dried red chili peppers
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the Szechuan peppercorns and dried red chili peppers. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and stir-fry for 5-6 minutes until they are cooked through.
  4. Push the chicken to the side of the wok and add the garlic, ginger, and green onions. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch. Pour the sauce over the chicken and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
  7. Season with salt to taste and garnish with additional chopped green onions, if desired.
