Lachanodolmades Me Rizi Kai Fytika (stuffed Cabbage Rolls With Rice And Herbs)

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes until they are pliable. Remove and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine the uncooked rice, chopped onion, diced tomatoes, parsley, dill, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Place a spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly.
  4. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer. Add enough water to cover the rolls, then place a heavy plate on top to keep them submerged.
  5. Cover the pot and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, or until the rice is fully cooked and the cabbage is tender.
  6. Once cooked, remove the cabbage rolls from the pot and arrange them on a serving platter. Garnish with lemon slices and serve hot.
