Ingredients

  • 500g mutton or beef, cut into pieces
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger and garlic paste, and cook for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  3. Now, add the mutton or beef pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the masala.
  5. Pour in enough water to cover the meat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 45-50 minutes until the meat is tender.
  6. Add the cubed potatoes and garam masala, and cook until the potatoes are soft and the gravy has thickened.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
