Lahori Kadhi Pakora is a traditional Pakistani dish hailing from the city of Lahore. It is a tangy yogurt-based curry with deep-fried gram flour fritters, making it a flavorful and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups yogurt
- 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 3-4 green chilies, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together yogurt, gram flour, and water to make a smooth mixture.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
- Dip spoonfuls of the gram flour mixture into the hot oil to make pakoras and fry until golden brown.
- In a separate pot, heat some oil and add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida.
- Add chopped onions, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until onions are golden brown.
- Pour in the yogurt mixture and add turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously, until the kadhi thickens.
- Add the fried pakoras to the kadhi and simmer for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
