Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and cumin seeds. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced onion and cook until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the ginger paste, garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  6. Add the green peas and soaked rice. Stir gently to combine with the spices.
  7. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
