Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup green peas
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 4 green cardamom pods
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and cumin seeds. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onion and cook until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger paste, garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
- Add the green peas and soaked rice. Stir gently to combine with the spices.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
