Lahori Paya (لہوری پایا)
لہوری پایا (Lahori Paya) is a traditional Muhajir Cuisine dish that is popular for its rich and flavorful broth, tender meat, and aromatic spices. This dish is often enjoyed as a special treat during breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 4 lamb trotters (paya)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the lamb trotters thoroughly and set aside.
- In a large pot, heat some oil and sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger and garlic paste, and cook for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the lamb trotters to the pot and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Then add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 3-4 hours until the trotters are tender and the broth is rich and flavorful.
- Serve hot with naan or paratha.
