Lahori Paya (lahori Paya)
Lahori Paya is a traditional Pakistani dish that is popular in the city of Lahore. It is a slow-cooked, flavorful curry made with tender lamb or goat trotters, simmered in a rich and aromatic gravy. This dish is often enjoyed as a special treat during family gatherings and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 4 lamb or goat trotters
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 cup ghee or oil
- 1 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Wash the trotters thoroughly and set aside.
- In a large pot, heat ghee or oil and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Now add the trotters and cook until they change color.
- Stir in the tomato puree, yogurt, and spices. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat, cover the pot, and simmer for 3 hours or until the trotters are tender.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
