Ingredients

  • 2 cups chickpeas, soaked overnight
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Water for kneading

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the soaked chickpeas with salt until soft.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Now, add the pureed tomatoes and all the dry spices. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  5. Add the cooked chickpeas to the masala and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. For the puris, knead the flour with water to form a stiff dough. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into small puris.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the puris until they puff up and turn golden brown.
  8. Serve the hot puris with the chana masala and enjoy!
