Ingredients

  • 500g minced meat
  • 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram lentils)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Wash the chana dal and soak it in water for 2 hours.
  2. In a pot, combine the minced meat, soaked chana dal, onion, green chilies, ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.
  3. Add enough water to cover the mixture and cook until the meat and lentils are tender and the water has evaporated.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool, then grind it into a smooth paste.
  5. Shape the mixture into round kebabs and shallow fry them in oil until golden brown.
  6. Serve the Lahori Shami Kebabs hot with chutney and naan.
