Lamb Curry, also known as Tatar Lamb Curry, is a flavorful and aromatic dish from Tatar cuisine. This dish is a perfect combination of tender lamb, aromatic spices, and a rich, creamy sauce.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs lamb, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and cardamom pods. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they break down and form a thick sauce.
- Stir in the plain yogurt and season with salt. Cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the lamb is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
