  • 1 pound lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and red wine. Simmer for 15 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.
  5. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, and cook until the sauce thickens. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  6. Spread a thin layer of bechamel sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a layer of lasagna noodles on top, followed by a layer of the meat sauce, bechamel sauce, and a sprinkle of Parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
