Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pound ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
  • 1 package lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until the onion is translucent.
  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ricotta, Parmesan, mozzarella, and oregano. Mix well and set aside.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  5. Arrange a single layer of lasagna noodles over the meat sauce. Spread one-third of the cheese mixture over the noodles. Top with one-third of the meat sauce. Repeat layers, ending with the meat sauce on top.
  6. Sprinkle the Pecorino Romano cheese over the top. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
