Lasagne Alla Bolognese (lasagna Bolognese)
Lasagne alla Bolognese, or Lasagna Bolognese, is a classic Italian dish that features layers of rich Bolognese sauce, creamy béchamel, and tender pasta, all baked to perfection. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) lasagna noodles
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup (120ml) red wine
- 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
- 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (60g) butter
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup (100g) grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, and cook until the vegetables are soft.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and red wine. Season with salt and pepper, and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux, then gradually whisk in the milk. Cook the béchamel sauce until thickened, then season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of Bolognese sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange a layer of lasagna noodles on top, followed by a layer of béchamel sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with a generous sprinkle of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
