Latvian Mushroom Pie (Latviešu sēņu pīrāgs)
Latviešu sēņu pīrāgs, or Latvian Mushroom Pie, is a traditional dish from Latvian cuisine that is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion. This savory pie is filled with flavorful mushrooms and wrapped in a flaky pastry crust, making it a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 sheets of store-bought puff pastry
Instructions
- In a pan, sauté the onions in butter until translucent.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and become tender. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl, mix the sour cream and eggs until well combined.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it in a pie dish. Prick the bottom with a fork.
- Spread the mushroom mixture over the pastry, then pour the sour cream and egg mixture on top.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry over the filling, sealing the edges with a fork. Cut slits on the top for steam to escape.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
