Λαζ Φασόλια Φούρνου, or Laz Baked Beans, is a traditional dish from Pontic Greek cuisine that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried white beans, soaked overnight
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups vegetable broth
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Drain the soaked beans and place them in a large baking dish.
- Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, olive oil, tomato paste, honey, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper to the baking dish with the beans.
- Pour the vegetable broth over the bean mixture and stir to combine.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the beans are tender and the liquid has thickened.
- Let the baked beans cool for a few minutes before serving.
