Laz Stuffed Grape Leaves (Λαζ Γεμιστά Αμπελόφυλλα)
Λαζ Γεμιστά Αμπελόφυλλα (Laz Stuffed Grape Leaves) is a traditional dish from Pontic Greek cuisine, featuring tender grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice, herbs, and spices.
Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup of short-grain rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup of pine nuts
- 1/4 cup of currants
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, onion, dill, mint, pine nuts, currants, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a small spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the bottom of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly into a small cylinder.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer.
- Place the lemon slices on top of the grape leaves.
- Add enough water to cover the grape leaves, then place a plate on top to keep them submerged.
- Cover the pot and simmer over low heat for 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the grape leaves are cooked.
- Remove from heat and let the stuffed grape leaves cool before serving.
