Lazian Polpette (pecorino Romano-stuffed Meatballs)
Lazian Polpette, also known as Pecorino Romano-Stuffed Meatballs, is a classic dish from the Lazian or Roman cuisine. These flavorful meatballs are stuffed with Pecorino Romano cheese, giving them a deliciously gooey center.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cubes of Pecorino Romano cheese (1 inch each)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Pecorino Romano cheese, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions. Take each portion and form it into a ball. Press a cube of Pecorino Romano cheese into the center of each meatball, ensuring it is completely enclosed by the meat mixture.
- In a large skillet, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat. Once the sauce is simmering, carefully add the stuffed meatballs to the skillet.
- Cover the skillet and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
- Serve the Lazian Polpette hot, garnished with additional grated Pecorino Romano cheese and parsley if desired.
