Lemon Soup (nimmakaya Charu)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 lemons, juiced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • Curry leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring water to a boil.
  2. Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, green chilies, and salt. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a small pan, add mustard seeds, and let them splutter. Add asafoetida and switch off the flame.
  4. Add the tempering to the soup and mix well.
  5. Turn off the heat and add lemon juice. Garnish with coriander leaves and curry leaves.
