Lemongrass Chicken (Gai Sa-oon)
Gai Sa-oon, also known as Lemongrass Chicken, is a popular dish in Lao Cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic dish is made with tender chicken marinated in lemongrass, garlic, and other fragrant herbs, then grilled or stir-fried to perfection.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 3 stalks lemongrass, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
- 1 lime, juiced
- Chopped cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine lemongrass, garlic, fish sauce, soy sauce, honey, vegetable oil, black pepper, chili flakes, and lime juice to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken breasts to the marinade, making sure they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Heat a grill or stovetop pan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and nicely charred.
- Remove the chicken from the grill or pan and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or salad.
