Lentil Dumplings (dal Pitha)
Lentil Dumplings, also known as Dal Pitha, are a traditional dish from Jharkhandi Cuisine. These dumplings are made with a flavorful lentil filling and are a popular snack or appetizer in the region.
Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow lentils, soaked
- 2 cups rice flour
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Boil the soaked lentils until soft, then drain and mash them.
- In a bowl, mix the mashed lentils with rice flour, onion, green chilies, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt. Add water gradually to form a smooth dough.
- Take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a small disc. Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Steam the shaped dumplings for 15-20 minutes until they are cooked through.
- Serve the lentil dumplings hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
