Lentil Patties (Къуламаш)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils, rinsed
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the red lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and the water is absorbed.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cooked lentils, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, cilantro, and bread crumbs. Stir until well combined.
  3. Form the lentil mixture into patties using your hands.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the lentil patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  6. Serve the kъуламаш (lentil patties) hot with your favorite side dishes or as a filling for sandwiches.
