Leonese-style Honey Flan (Flan de Miel a la Leonés)
Flan de Miel a la Leonés, or Leonese-style Honey Flan, is a traditional dessert from the region of León in Spain. This creamy and decadent flan is infused with the rich flavor of honey, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the honey over low heat until it becomes liquid.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and then add the sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Slowly pour the warm honey into the egg mixture while continuously whisking to combine.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Pour the mixture into a flan mold or individual ramekins.
- Place the flan mold or ramekins in a large baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the mold or ramekins.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove from the oven and let the flan cool to room temperature. Then, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert it onto a serving plate.
