Libyan Style Baked Fish (Samak Bil-Forn)
Samak Bil-Forn is a traditional Libyan dish of baked fish, seasoned with a blend of aromatic spices and herbs. This flavorful and healthy recipe is a staple in Libyan cuisine, perfect for a family meal or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 whole fish (such as sea bass or snapper), cleaned and scaled
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Make 3 diagonal cuts on each side of the fish.
- In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, cumin, paprika, coriander, turmeric, salt, pepper, and minced garlic to create a spice paste.
- Rub the spice paste all over the fish, including inside the cuts.
- Place the fish on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Place lemon slices inside the cuts and on top of the fish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
