Liechtensteiner Potato and Cheese Gratin (Liechtensteiner Kartoffel-Käse-Gratin)

Ingredients

  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese over the potatoes.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and cheese.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the potatoes and cheese.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
