Liechtensteiner Potato and Leek Gratin (Liechtensteiner Kartoffel-Lauch-Gratin)
Liechtensteiner Kartoffel-Lauch-Gratin, or Liechtensteiner Potato and Leek Gratin, is a traditional dish from the small European country of Liechtenstein. This hearty and comforting gratin is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special holiday meal.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 leeks, white and light green parts only, sliced
- 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
- Top the potatoes with half of the sliced leeks and half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, leeks, and cheese.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and minced garlic over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
- Pour the hot cream mixture over the potatoes and leeks in the baking dish.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving.
