Liechtensteiner Potato and Leek Gratin (Liechtensteiner Kartoffel-Lauch-Gratin)

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 leeks, white and light green parts only, sliced
  • 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  3. Top the potatoes with half of the sliced leeks and half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, leeks, and cheese.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and minced garlic over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
  6. Pour the hot cream mixture over the potatoes and leeks in the baking dish.
  7. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving.
