Limburgse Kersentaart, or Limburgian Cherry Tart, is a traditional dessert from the Limburg region of the Netherlands. This delicious tart features a buttery crust filled with sweet cherries, creating a perfect balance of flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the flour, cold butter, sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.
- In a bowl, mix the cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and almond extract. Pour the cherry mixture into the crust.
- Sprinkle the remaining flour mixture over the cherries.
- Bake the tart in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the tart to cool before serving.
