Limburgse Koolrolletjes, or Limburgian Cabbage Rolls, are a traditional dish from the Limburg region of the Netherlands. These delicious cabbage rolls are filled with a savory mixture of ground meat, rice, and spices, then simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground meat
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes until they are pliable. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, paprika, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides to enclose the filling.
- In a large pot, combine the crushed tomatoes and broth. Place the cabbage rolls seam side down in the pot. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
