Limburgse Pruimenvlaai, or Limburgian Plum Cake, is a traditional pastry from the Limburg region of the Netherlands. This delicious dessert features a sweet pastry crust filled with juicy plums, creating a perfect balance of flavors.
Ingredients
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 250g unsalted butter, softened
- 75g granulated sugar
- 7g active dry yeast
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 10-12 ripe plums, pitted and halved
- 50g granulated sugar (for plums)
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. Knead the dough until smooth, then cover and let it rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and transfer it to a greased 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the pan, trimming any excess from the edges.
- Arrange the halved plums on top of the dough, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the vlaai to cool before serving.
