Lithuanian Honey Cake (Lietuviškas medaus tortas)
This traditional Lithuanian honey cake is a delightful dessert that showcases the rich flavors of honey and spices.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
- In a saucepan, heat the honey, sugar, and butter until the sugar is dissolved. Let it cool slightly.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the sour cream.
- Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
