Cepelinai su grybų padažu, also known as Lithuanian Zeppelins with Mushroom Sauce, is a traditional dish from Lithuania. These potato dumplings are filled with meat and served with a rich and flavorful mushroom sauce.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and grated
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup dried mushrooms, rehydrated and chopped
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the grated potatoes with flour and salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and flatten each portion into a disk.
- Combine the ground pork, ground beef, and chopped onion. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place a portion of the meat mixture in the center of each potato disk and shape it into a dumpling.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and carefully add the dumplings. Cook for 30-40 minutes or until they float to the surface.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and sauté the rehydrated mushrooms until golden brown.
- Pour in the beef or vegetable broth and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the sour cream and season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the cepelinai with the mushroom sauce on top.
