Little French Girl (francesinha)
The Little French Girl, also known as Francesinha, is a traditional Portuguese sandwich with layers of meat and cheese, smothered in a rich beer and tomato sauce. This indulgent dish is a must-try for anyone visiting Portugal!
Ingredients
- 8 slices of bread
- 4 beef steaks
- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of cheese
- 4 sausages
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups of beer
- 1 cup of tomato sauce
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grill the beef steaks and sausages until cooked through.
- Assemble the sandwiches by layering the bread, ham, beef, sausage, and cheese.
- Place the sandwiches in a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, heat the olive oil and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
- Pour in the beer and tomato sauce, and season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the sauce over the sandwiches and top each with a fried egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
