Livonian Fisherman's Pie (Livonijas Zvejnieka Pīrāgs)
Livonijas Zvejnieka Pīrāgs, or Livonian Fisherman's Pie, is a traditional dish from the Livonian cuisine, known for its rich flavors and hearty ingredients.
Ingredients
- 500g white fish fillets
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 200ml fish stock
- 100ml heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the diced potatoes until tender, then mash them with butter and cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Sauté the chopped onion in a pan until translucent, then add the fish stock and bring to a simmer.
- Add the fish fillets to the pan and poach for 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Place the cooked fish and onion mixture in a baking dish, then spread the mashed potatoes on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Serve the Livonijas Zvejnieka Pīrāgs hot and enjoy!
