Long John Silvers Hush Puppies
Long John Silver's hush puppies are a classic Southern side dish that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are perfect for pairing with seafood or enjoying on their own as a tasty snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, water, egg, and chopped onion.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 365°F (185°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the hush puppies from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
