Lu Niu Nan, or Stewed Beef Brisket with Radish, is a traditional dish from Anhui Cuisine known for its tender beef and flavorful radish. This dish is perfect for a comforting and hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
- 1 large radish, peeled and cut into chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 scallions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 6 cups water
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and rinse with cold water.
- Place the blanched beef brisket, radish, ginger, scallions, star anise, and cinnamon sticks in the pot.
- Add soy sauce, sugar, Shaoxing wine, and water to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Serve the stewed beef brisket with radish hot, garnished with chopped scallions if desired.
