Lu Niu Nan (stewed Beef Brisket With Radish)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
  • 1 large radish, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 scallions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 3 star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 6 cups water
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and rinse with cold water.
  2. Place the blanched beef brisket, radish, ginger, scallions, star anise, and cinnamon sticks in the pot.
  3. Add soy sauce, sugar, Shaoxing wine, and water to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  4. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Serve the stewed beef brisket with radish hot, garnished with chopped scallions if desired.
