लखनवी शीरमल (Lucknowi Sheermal) is a traditional sweet flatbread from the Uttar Pradesh Cuisine. It is known for its rich flavor and soft texture, making it a perfect accompaniment to savory dishes or enjoyed on its own.

Lucknowi Sheermal (लखनवी शीरमल)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 tsp saffron strands
  • 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the saffron strands in warm milk and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  3. Add the saffron-infused milk and ghee to the dry ingredients and knead into a smooth dough.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, allowing it to double in size.
  5. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  6. Flatten each ball into a disc and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Preheat the stovetop griddle or tawa over medium heat.
  8. Place the flattened dough discs on the griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Brush the cooked sheermals with ghee and serve warm.
