लखनवी शीरमल (Lucknowi Sheermal) is a traditional sweet flatbread from the Uttar Pradesh Cuisine. It is known for its rich flavor and soft texture, making it a perfect accompaniment to savory dishes or enjoyed on its own.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/2 tsp saffron strands
- 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the saffron strands in warm milk and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add the saffron-infused milk and ghee to the dry ingredients and knead into a smooth dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, allowing it to double in size.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape them into balls.
- Flatten each ball into a disc and place them on a baking sheet.
- Preheat the stovetop griddle or tawa over medium heat.
- Place the flattened dough discs on the griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Brush the cooked sheermals with ghee and serve warm.
