Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry

Instructions

  1. In a cast iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  3. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Arrange the sliced potatoes in the skillet, overlapping slightly.
  5. Sprinkle the sugar over the potatoes and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Layer the caramelized onions on top of the potatoes.
  7. Cover the skillet with the puff pastry, tucking in the edges.
  8. Bake in the oven at 375°F for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  9. Let the tarte tatin cool for 5 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a serving platter.
