Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon Sichuan peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
Instructions
- Press the tofu cubes between paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed and sauté the garlic and Sichuan peppercorns until fragrant.
- Add the green onions, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, chili flakes, and vegetable broth to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Return the fried tofu to the skillet and toss to coat in the spicy garlic sauce.
- Transfer the Ma La Dou Fu to a serving dish and garnish with additional green onions, if desired.
