Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, cubed
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
  • 2 tbsp chili bean paste
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, and green onions. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add Szechuan peppercorns and chili bean paste. Cook for another minute.
  4. Add tofu and gently stir to combine with the sauce.
  5. Pour in the vegetable broth, soy sauce, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice.
