Ma Po Dou Fu (szechuan Tofu)
Ma Po Dou Fu, also known as Szechuan Tofu, is a popular dish in Pakistani Chinese cuisine, known for its spicy and flavorful sauce combined with soft tofu.
Ingredients
- 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, cubed
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
- 2 tbsp chili bean paste
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat.
- Add garlic, ginger, and green onions. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
- Add Szechuan peppercorns and chili bean paste. Cook for another minute.
- Add tofu and gently stir to combine with the sauce.
- Pour in the vegetable broth, soy sauce, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
