Македонска пита со сирење (Macedonian Cheese Pie) is a traditional Macedonian dish that is loved for its flaky pastry and creamy cheese filling. This savory pie is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side dish for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 500g phyllo dough
- 250g feta cheese, crumbled
- 250g ricotta cheese
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, mix the feta cheese, ricotta cheese, and beaten eggs. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Lay 2 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the dish, allowing the edges to hang over the sides. Brush with melted butter.
- Spread half of the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat layering phyllo dough and cheese mixture, ending with a layer of phyllo dough on top.
- Tuck in the overhanging edges and brush the top with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown.
- While the pie is baking, mix the plain yogurt and milk in a bowl.
- Once the pie is done, remove it from the oven and pour the yogurt mixture over the hot pie.
- Allow the pie to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
