Macedonian Cheese Pie (Македонска пита со сирење)

Ingredients

  • 500g phyllo dough
  • 250g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 250g ricotta cheese
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the feta cheese, ricotta cheese, and beaten eggs. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Lay 2 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the dish, allowing the edges to hang over the sides. Brush with melted butter.
  5. Spread half of the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
  6. Repeat layering phyllo dough and cheese mixture, ending with a layer of phyllo dough on top.
  7. Tuck in the overhanging edges and brush the top with melted butter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown.
  9. While the pie is baking, mix the plain yogurt and milk in a bowl.
  10. Once the pie is done, remove it from the oven and pour the yogurt mixture over the hot pie.
  11. Allow the pie to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
