Macedonian Pumpkin Pie (Македонска тиквешка пита)
Македонска тиквешка пита (Macedonian Pumpkin Pie) is a traditional Macedonian dish that is perfect for the fall season. This savory pie is made with a flaky phyllo pastry and a delicious filling of pumpkin, feta cheese, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 500g pumpkin, peeled and cubed
- 200g feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 sheets phyllo pastry
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin, feta cheese, parsley, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 4 sheets of phyllo pastry in the bottom of the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spoon the pumpkin mixture over the phyllo pastry.
- Layer the remaining 4 sheets of phyllo pastry on top of the pumpkin mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Score the top of the pie into squares or diamonds with a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the phyllo pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
