Magwinya Madness
Magwinya, also known as fat cakes, are a popular street food in Botswana. These deep-fried doughnuts are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, making them a delightful snack or breakfast option.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- Oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
- Add the warm water gradually and knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour.
- After the dough has risen, heat the oil in a deep pot or fryer.
- Pinch off small balls of dough and carefully place them in the hot oil.
- Fry the magwinyas until they are golden brown on all sides.
- Remove the fried magwinyas and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve the magwinyas warm and enjoy!
