Mahalabia (saudi Arabian Spiced Milk Pudding)
Mahalabia is a traditional Saudi Arabian spiced milk pudding that is creamy, fragrant, and delicately sweet. It is often flavored with rose water and topped with nuts or dried fruits, making it a popular dessert for special occasions and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp rose water
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 cup chopped pistachios, for garnish
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds, for garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 1/2 cup of milk.
- In a saucepan, heat the remaining milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved.
- Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan while stirring continuously.
- Add the rose water and ground cardamom, and continue to cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour the pudding into serving dishes. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
- Before serving, garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds.
