Mahamri Delight
Mahamri is a popular Kenyan delicacy that is enjoyed as a breakfast or snack. These sweet, deep-fried bread rolls are a delightful treat that pairs perfectly with a cup of chai.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup water
- Oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and cardamom.
- Add the coconut milk and water, then knead the dough until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 2 hours.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a ball.
- Flatten each ball into a disc and then fold it in half to form a semi-circle.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the mahamri until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
