Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • Oil for deep-frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and coconut milk. Knead the dough until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Flatten each ball slightly and make a few cuts on the surface.
  5. Heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the mahamri in batches until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
